Next Wednesday, Sat.1 will show the season finale of this year’s season of “Das Große Promibacken”. A few days earlier, participant Faisal Kawusi, actually a comedian, caused a stir. He spoke up via Instagram and Facebook and showed “deeply disappointed” by the broadcaster. Specifically, the point is that the broadcaster would have hurt him deeply, as he explains. Kawusi had recently baked a cake that he kept in the colors black, red and green – the colors of Afghanistan, his homeland. “The black stands for the dark past that the country has lived through, the red stands for the blood that was spilled, the green stands for a hopeful future that is difficult today,” he explained afterwards, describing his work as the “most important cake” he makes in this competition.
He saw this as a “message” for Germany, Afghanistan and the world. “We haven’t forgotten you,” Kawusi explained in his speech. The message is followed by Kawusi singing the Afghan national anthem. He also shows that he has the three colors black, red and green tattooed on his shoulder. The singing of the anthem could not be seen on television. That’s why Kawusi has now published an uncut version of the production on Instagram – and made his disappointment public there.
“I am the voice of those who are not heard. I am the voice of those who feel pain. I am the voice of those who are not invited on talk shows. And that voice, for me, had a very profound message,” explained Kawusi on his account. Even before the broadcast, he apparently knew that Sat.1 would not show the part of his singing – the broadcaster called him “production reasons”. After seeing the episode, he has no understanding of it. “Unfortunately you took the soul out of the whole thing. I think that sucks.”
The public statement by the broadcaster, which Kawusi also requested, was not particularly revealing. A broadcaster spokeswoman told the teleshow that his special statement for his homeland had been “shown in detail”. Kawusi was “explained in great detail” why the decision was made to cut out the singing of the Afghan national anthem.
