Berlin (dpa) – Celebrities from film and music have shown their horror at the unprecedented attack on Israel by the Islamist Hamas and expressed their condolences to the relatives of the victims. “My heart is broken,” Natalie Portman wrote on Instagram. Children, women and elderly people were murdered and kidnapped from their homes. “I am horrified by the barbaric acts,” the 42-year-old continued. Her heart beats for the families of all those affected. Portman isn’t the only celebrity to speak out.
Actress Jamie Lee Curtis (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”, 64) was also dismayed: “For Jews all over the world, life will never be normal again. This is our new normal.” She has no words – only tears and pain. Gal Gadot (38) sent her prayers to the relatives: “My heart hurts.” Pop star Madonna (65) posted a video of the events and wrote: “Imagine if this happened to you too? It’s unbelievable.” Madonna manager Guy Oseary (51), “Star Wars” actor Mark Hamill (72) and model Bar Refaeli (38) also spoke up.

“ZDF- Fernsehengarten” presenter Andrea Kiewel (58) described her experiences in Israel to the “Bild” newspaper: “I’m on alert all day long. I used to be a lifeguard, and that’s just coming back to me,” said Kiewel . Being there for others now is what keeps her stable. “I packed a bag with pasta, deodorant, chocolate, tuna, nuts, dates and chips and went to Dizengoff Square to support the people there.” The presenter lives in Frankfurt and Tel Aviv.
Hamas launched surprise rocket attacks against Israel from Gaza on Saturday morning. At the same time, armed Palestinians advanced into Israel by land, sea and air and attacked people in several towns near the border. Not only did they kill hundreds of Israelis, but according to Israeli figures they also abducted more than 100 people, including women, children and the elderly, to the Gaza Strip. In return, the Israeli Air Force bombed additional Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip.
