The date is determined every year according to the lunar calendar, so it is always different. The next year in China begins on the second new moon after the winter solstice. Therefore 2023 Chinese New Year will come January 22 and will end on February 9, 2024. And according to Kyiv time, the New Year in China will be at 18:00 on January 21.
The celebration in China takes place for a whole week – from January 21 to 27. All these days are public holidays. On these dates, there are often big traffic jams in China, banks and many shops do not work. Therefore, the Chinese always take this fact into account when preparing for the celebration.
history of the holiday
In China, there is one interesting legend associated with the New Year. According to him, the monster Nian appeared here twice a year, which spent the rest of the day sleeping at the bottom of the sea. When the monster came to land, it brought with it severe destruction, troubles and misfortunes. Nian also killed livestock and robbed the houses of local residents.
Once, when Nian, as usual, burst into the village, he saw children in red clothes. The monster was very scared of them. Therefore, since then, the Chinese began to scare away evil spirits with lanterns, fireworks and red clothes.
In China, the New Year symbolizes the beginning of spring. According to their ideas, from now on, nature begins to revive, life flourishes.
