Andrés «CHIMANGO» Lares, a prominent figure on the Peruvian music scene, celebrates almost half a century of artistic dedication. His recent tour of France and Spain, where they dazzled with the majestic Scissors Dance, contributed to the tourism promotion of Peru. Now, the renowned researcher and disseminator of this dance worldwide presents a new stage proposal under the direction of actress Ana Gladys Arce, resident in Spain.
The play, titled “The Legend of the Danzaq Child”, is inspired by the mythology of the origin of the Scissors Dance, highlighting its relevance as a cultural expression of great value. This dance, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, finds its greatest diffusion and conservation in the Chanka Region, comprised of Ayacucho, Huancavelica and Apurímac.
The production tells the story of a peasant boy who, upon fulfilling a maternal assignment, experiences a magical encounter with a mysterious child, the spirit of the Apus Huamanis, who teaches him a unique and unknown dance: the Scissors Dance. This legend, in addition to recounting the origin of this ancestral dance, highlights the importance of children in Andean culture, thus ensuring its generational continuity.
Accompanying this event, prominent artists such as Nayda Gutiérrez, Porfirio Ayvar, Gregorio Maldonado and Claudia de Chipao will be presented, along with a constellation of 50 artists on stage, including Danzaq “Qesqento”, from New York, USA. UU.
The appointment to enjoy this magical legend that narrates the beginning of the Scissors Dance will be on Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the Grand National Theater. Tickets are available at Teleticket and for more information you can call 900 700 666.
