Limousine will soon celebrate its two decades. The group had in fact published its eponymous album in 2005. Hula Hoop is the fifth and we find the same musical DNA which gives a downright lounge character to its jazz; It still works just as well. It’s both dense and light, soaring and earthy. The quartet has enlisted the services of singers who operate in very different registers. We thus find, in the order of appearance, the Brazilian singer Lucas Santtanathe rapper Akhenatenthe English singer Amber Burgoynethe pop singer Malik Djoudi et Victor Solf.
On a down tempo electronic aesthetic, these five voices bring a particular color; so on “Some Blue and Yellow” – should we specify which flag it is? – where Malik Djoudi’s voice takes us into a tranquility close to trance. It is very beautiful.
