Celebrating Spanish Cinema: Honoring Lola Flores on the Third Edition of Spanish Cinema Day

He Spanish Cinema Day celebrates its third edition with the centenary of Lola Flores. For the second consecutive year, the Central Library of Cantabria joins this initiative that seeks to recognize the role of professionals in the film sector, their influence and importance in cultural and social life.

In 2021, the Council of Ministers agreed to establish October 6 as Spanish Cinema Day. The quote is intended collectively highlight the weight and importance of Spanish cinema as cultural heritage, generator of a common identity and imagination. With this purpose, different activities and actions are carried out that publicize and celebrate the richness and diversity of Spanish cinematography, as well as its professionals and its audiences: screenings, colloquiums, meetings, training activities, publications, exhibitions and communication actions.

This year, Spanish Cinema Day will be dedicated to the actress, dancer and singer Lola Flores on the occasion of the centenary of his birth. Therefore, it will be projected ““Bewitchment” by Carlos Serrano de Osma, starring Lola Flores and Manolo Caracol, within the programming cycle.

Additionally, two films directed by female filmmakers, “The Girls” by Pilar Palomero and “Valentina” by Chelo Loureirowill be key titles of the programming.
