Roger Federer’s moment of honor: Laver Cup celebrates first anniversary of retirement

Roger Federer will be honored at this year’s Laver Cup, according to the event, on the first anniversary of his retirement from professional tennis. The Laver Cup will take place in Vancouver from September 22nd to 24th this year.

On the first day of this year’s edition of the tournament, Federer will make his way onto the court of Rogers Arena in Vancouver. On the court, Federer will meet Jim Courier – the American tennis legend who introduced the Swiss to the Laver Cup in London immediately after the end of his career famously interviewed last year.

Also on Friday 22nd September, fans will have the opportunity to submit their questions which Courier will address to Federer on court. Also, in each session, two lucky fans will be randomly selected and have the opportunity to sit directly on court with Federer .

Federer had an ‘amazing’ farewell

Last September, Federer formed a doubles match with Nadal in his farewell match. While Federer and Nadal played together on the court, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray supported them from Team Europe Bank.

After it was all over, Federer thanked everyone who made it a special farewell. “It is amazing. I didn’t want it to be lonely out there. It felt lonely for a moment when they sent me out, but saying goodbye in a team always made me feel like I was a team player at heart.

Individuals don’t really matter that much, but I had a team that traveled around the world with me. It was incredible for her. So thank you to everyone who has made it work for so many years. Being on that team has been incredible, playing all those Laver Cups and it feels like a celebration.

I wanted it to feel like this – and that’s exactly what I was hoping for, so thanks. It was never meant to be. I was just happy playing tennis and spending time with my friends, really. It was kind of a perfect trip.

I would do everything again. It was so much fun, fantastic, I had so many people cheering me on and you guys here tonight mean the world to me,” said Federer after completing his career at the Laver Cup.
