Timisoara – The “Victoria” cinema, the first traditional cinema in the city, renovated by the Timisoara Municipality and coordinated by a team from the Project Center, is now celebrating its first year of operation. 622 public and private events have been held here since September 2022. More than 37,000 spectators entered the new city cinema, almost 20 percent of them children. The city’s residents of all ages were delighted by the constant and consistent, carefully curated program, which included 18 film festivals, numerous thematic focuses and more than 50 meetings and discussions with directors and actors throughout the year. The Victoria multi-purpose room, open to young audiences and the community, has hosted over 40 school performances, 18 conferences and debates, 8 theater performances, as well as concerts, dance and circus performances and other community events. So this is the annual balance of “Cinema Victoria”.
“The Timisoara audience pleasantly surprised us with their curiosity, enthusiasm and loyalty and motivated us to expand the cultural offering of this hall day after day with passion and perseverance. After a year, we can say that a community of film enthusiasts has emerged around ‘Cinema Victoria’,” says Ioana Dragomirescu, the cinema’s coordinator.
Exactly one year after the opening, an anniversary program will be organized on the weekend of September 15th to 17th. This is a summary of the first year of operation: previews, theater, encounters with special guests, Romanian films and animations for the whole family can be discovered. “Cinema Victoria” is the first of five city cinemas that are currently being renovated and will soon open. The second, the “Timiș” cinema, is scheduled to reopen in October.
