Celebrating Colombian Independence in New York City

NEW YORK — This Thursday, July 20, the Independence of Colombia is celebrated and the New York consulate will carry out different activities to commemorate the 213 years of this date.

To begin with, Consul General Andrés Mejía and New York City Mayor Eric Adams will raise the national flag and sing the Colombian anthem at Bowling Square Park at 2:00 pm. Place where there will also be a small Colombian cultural sample. Activity that has been coordinated by the consular team and the team of the Mayor’s office for immigrant affairs.

In addition, one of the most emblematic buildings in the world will dress in Colombia.

At 8:00 pm the Empire State will light up with the yellow, blue and red of the Colombian flag. For the first time, a Colombian talent, the renowned actress and president of the Colombian Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences, Natalia Reyes, accompanied by Consul General Andrés Mejía, will turn on the lights of the emblematic building.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Urban Folklore Orchestra: Pablo Mayor brings “El Barrio Project” by the Urban Folklore Orchestra to one of the neighborhoods with the largest Colombian community. The band will perform at Terraza 7, in Queens, at 7 pm. For more information go here.
