On April 28, 1973, Claudine Ratel and Bernard Girard got married in Saint-Martin-la-Porte, the birthplace of the future wife. Fifty years later, the couple invited their large family to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary.
The event took place in the multipurpose hall of Saint-Étienne-de-Cuines, on the last Sunday of April 2023. Sheltered from rainy weather, “like the day of our wedding”, remembers Claudine Girard. Rainy marriage therefore happy marriage? The couple confirms.
She, secretary until 2014 is the fourth child of Julie and Jules Ratel. He, first a mason, then a factory worker before a deserved cessation of activity in 2010, son of Maurice and Julie Girard, is the fourth in a family of twelve children.
Claudine and Bernard, residents of Route de la Combe, where Sandra and Lionel, their two children, have come to brighten up the family cocoon. In 1997, Guillaume was the first grandson of Claudine and Bernard Girard who also received many from their seven other grandchildren Victorien, Lilly, Madelyne, Clément, Thibault and Elora.
On the day of the golden wedding, it was the rendezvous of happiness around a good meal, memories, surprises and passions evoked by the newlyweds of the Year 1973. Fans of walking, especially on the Santiago de Compostela in 2009 and 2019, or cycle tourism enthusiasts who took part in the ViaRhona in 2022, i.e. two weeks of roaming from Lake Geneva to the Mediterranean.
Dynamic, the couple soon plans to go around the Loire. The journey from Nevers to Saint-Brévin-les-Pins will be closely followed by the great Girard family and their descendants.
