The Gijón textbook exchange program, developed by the youth association Estudiantes Progresistas and the Conseyu de Mocedá de Xixón (CMX), arrives at its silver anniversary. This 25th edition starts on July 3. From that day on, the mobile phone will be operational to make an appointment with a WhatsApp message to 684645812. The appointment system was launched during the pandemic and remained as a formula to avoid the queues of parents waiting to deliver , and above all collect, the books for their children.
The book collection phase by the organizers will take place between July 5 and 28. And the delivery, from August 16 to September 29. Although the program has a third phase, which is called live enrollment and will be in October, where the process is repeated in order to meet the needs of families that have later joined the Gijón educational centers.
The importance of the program is attested by the data provided by Paloma Navarro and Yurena Sabio from the last edition yesterday: 1,930 books distributed among 684 families with an economic movement of 57,900 euros. Both participated in the presentation of the new edition at the City Hall together with the mayor of Education, the socialist Natalia González. “This program performs an important social function both for families and in what has to do with raising awareness about the circular economy,” said the mayor, who also thanked the schools for their work with her book banks.
