Celebrating 25 Years of the City Sports Hall: A Community Milestone in Pápai

The foundation stone was laid on August 10, 1998, and a little more than 1 year later, on October 2, 1999, the construction of the City Sports Hall was already established. The facility is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year – on this occasion, Pápai Sport Nonprofit Kft organized a sports event.

At the event, Krisztina Vadász gave a greeting, interpreting the greeting of Mayor Attila Grőber. The deputy mayor said that the handing over of the sports hall was a milestone in the life of the city and in the life of the Pope’s sport, the facility has been serving the people of the city for 25 years, from small children to pensioners. The hall with an area of ​​20 x 40 meters and an auditorium with 1,150 seats was the venue for many sporting, cultural and community events.
“Community spaces are important for every town, we need places where we can be together,” said the deputy mayor, adding that every pope has memories of this place from the past 25 years.

He also emphasized that sport is not only responsible for good stability and strengthening of the immune system, but much more than that: it is known to improve health and the environment, it has the effect of preventing disease, it has a proven function in cultural bridging. and ethnic differences, and is a suitable tool for creating equal opportunities, socializing in a positive way and helping to prevent crime.
– Sport has the function of creating and strengthening community. Among other things, it would be important for this reason and to preserve our health, that regular physical exercise is available to everyone. This requires good professionals, active sports organizers and adequate resources, he said. As he said, the City Sports Hall is a great place for community sports events and he is confident that it will serve the people of Papacy for a long time to come.

The event started with a dance performance by ZsooDance TSE and continued with a handball performance by Kilian DSE. The organizers held a sports competition for primary schools – with 4 teams involved -, Petőfi and Türr basketball teams played a friendly match, but the program also included free muaythai training with cooperation from Koko-Gym Se and a small man- field soccer game.
