Started the LGBTIQ + Pride Month And on Facebook we join this celebration with creative tools to commemorate diversity, and tips to protect yourself (and others) on our platforms.
Stickers, Hashtags, Filters, Avatars and more
Our logo with the rainbow. For this we partnered with artist Jasmina El Bouamraoui (EL BOUM), who used vibrant colors, blocky shapes and different textures in homage to the boldness, confidence and authenticity of each individual.
On Instagram, where more than 2.5 million accounts use the rainbow flag in their bio, the first novelty is a new pack of six Stickers for Stories, created by artists from the community.
In partnership with GLAAD, Instagram will also identify the most used hashtags in the world by the community. When used in the Feed, they will have the rainbow gradient. While in Stories, the profile photo of the person you posted will get a rainbow outline for 24 hours. This will also happen when they use the Stickers.
Likewise, we will launch animations on Facebook that allow people to add a filter inspired by the rainbow flag or the trans flag at the top of the shared publications; and a personalized feed for the #Pride hashtag that will show related content throughout the month of June. In addition, new Avatars, backgrounds for Facebook posts, as well as Stickers for Feed and Stories and chat topics will be enabled in Messenger and Messenger Kids.
5 tips to protect yourself (and others) on Instagram and Facebook
If you want, you can block other people
• If someone is negatively impacting your experience, you can block them. This person will NOT be notified and you can unblock them at any time.
– Instagram ➞ Select the «…» menu on the person’s profile and click «block»
– Facebook ➞ Click on the arrow in the upper right corner of any Facebook page and select ‘block’, enter the person’s name and click ‘block’. You can also lock directly on the person’s profile by clicking the “…” menu in the lower right corner of the profile cover photo.
Silence “nuisance noises”
• Sometimes it’s okay to take a break from someone you follow. Therefore, there are controls on both platforms to silence or suspend contact with some accounts, without being notified.
– Instagram ➞ You can “mute” Feed and Story posts by tapping the “…” menu in the upper right corner of that person’s post.
– Facebook ➞ You can ‘suspend’ someone, a page or a group by clicking ‘…’ in the upper right corner of a post.
Manage your privacy
• There are different ways to manage your privacy, know your audience and protect your space, such as choosing who can follow you on Instagram and controlling who sees your posts on Facebook.
– Instagram ➞ Enter your account Settings and then under “Privacy” and activate the “Private account” button. By doing this, you can approve account requests that request to follow you.
– Facebook ➞ In “Settings” and “Privacy” in the web version, go to “Privacy check” to keep track of your privacy and security settings and review your options to reflect that you are sharing your content with whomever you want.
Keep your community safe
• If you are a Facebook group administrator, you can decide the types of rules you want to set for your community, including posts that are recommended and behavior that is discouraged. Administrators can also remove or block a member, as well as change the privacy level and manage whether non-members can find them in searches and elsewhere on Facebook. Get more information at Resources for page managers.
Be an ally
• Stand up for people if you see someone being attacked online, don’t be a bystander. You can report abuse, spam, or anything else that makes you feel uncomfortable or doesn’t follow the Instagram or Facebook Community Guidelines. When you report something to Facebook, a global team reviews and removes anything that violates those terms.
