Come celebrate the african american culture through the festival Durag in Charlotte.
Durag Fest is an annual Juneteenth festival that celebrate African American culture with art, music, fashion and community.
Will take place on 19th of June with the help of the
- Teatro Blumenthal,
- Carolinas Foundation
- and the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority.
A durag is a cloth cap tight fitting that ties around the top of head. They are used to maintain natural oils in the hair, to stop hair breakage or to prevent hair, wave patterns and braids move while you sleep.
They are used as an option to fashion what do you think identity, popular in the african american culture.

This year, the fourth installment of the festival will be bigger than ever. This year’s design motif is Flores.
“A countless black creatives their ideas are being stolen and they are being denied compensation. So this year we want to give each other our flowers because we deserve them, ”Said Durag Festival co-founder Dammit Wesley.
The Durag Festival is also expanding geographically and will be at Victoria Yards, NASCAR Hall of Fame Plaza, and Camp North End.
Festival Durag
The celebration begins of the festival early in Victoria Yards, located at 408 North Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC. There will be a “Fiesta of the Deep Wave Day ”and a African American vendor market starting at 12 pm
Starting at 2 pm and onwards, participants can go through the NASCAR Hall of Fame located at 400 E MLK Jr Boulevard, Charlotte. Here people can witness a outdoor art installation titled “Durag Hall of Fame,” featuring portraits of Charlotte citizens in addition to dance performances.
After dark, the festivities will relocate to Camp North End, located at 1824 Statesville Road, Charlotte, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. In addition to a talented roster of local artists and artists, the real stars of the Durag Festival are the elegant assistants. This event will host a huge street fashion show.
Attendees are encouraged to express your creativity, use durags and / or clothing that represents African American and African heritage.
This event follows the COVID-19 safety guidelines from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Unvaccinated attendees se asks them to wear masks and practice social distancing.
