The summit was called by the president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, in her capacity as pro tempore head of Celac, to discuss the violent events at the Mexican Embassy in Quito, on the 5th, when security forces took out the forces the former vice president of Ecuador Jorge Glas.

The violent event recorded at the Mexican diplomatic legation in the Ecuadorian capital “is unacceptable,” said the president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, while his Venezuelan counterpart, Nicolás Maduro, described it as “an act of barbarism.” EFE
