Ceiling on gas prices and group purchases: Europe examines how energy prices can be reduced

Such a maximum price was discussed for a long time. Belgium, among others, was in the run-up to the top for a ceiling and was strengthened by Italy and Spain. But countries such as the Netherlands and Germany fear that gas suppliers will then no longer want to supply Europe.

The European Commission will now examine how this can be done in consultation with the industry. “That was necessary to convince Germany and the Netherlands,” said De Croo. “It’s important that you do that with the industry to make sure its implementation is perfect and there can never be a security of supply problem.”
