Ceasefire in the Middle East, the global cry

Tens of thousands of protesters marched yesterday in cities around the world, such as London, Paris, Madrid, Caracas, Santiago and Cape Town, among others, in order to demand a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the war between Israel and Hamas, which takes place on October 7.

In the United States, a man set himself on fire in the pro-Palestinian protest in front of the White House. The newspaper The Washington Post reported that the protester claimed to be a journalist and pleaded guilty to having spread misinformation about the crisis in the Middle East.

The Reuters agency released a photo in which the subject is seen being helped by other assistants who put out the fire on his arm using their kufiyas (traditional Palestinian scarves).

The protest in the British capital, which was led, among other figures, by former Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn (now independent) and former Scottish Prime Minister Humza Yousaf, brought together around 40,000 people. Israel supporters in Berlin protested against the rise of anti-Semitism, in a mass mobilization in which there were clashes between officers and pro-Palestinian protesters; Authorities detailed that they arrested 26 people who hurled insults at a pro-Israel march.
