At 6 a.m. Dutch time, a ceasefire of at least four days came into effect between Israel and Hamas. The truce applies to the entire Gaza Strip. The deal also includes an exchange of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners.
Later today, at 3 p.m., thirteen Israeli hostages kidnapped by Hamas will be released. It concerns women and children. More kidnapped Israelis, a total of fifty people, are expected to be released in the coming days. According to Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office, Israel has now received a list of hostages to be released and contact has been made with their relatives.
In exchange, Israel releases Palestinian women, children and 18-year-olds. This concerns about 150 people in Israeli prisons. It is not known how many Palestinians will be released today. And it is also not clear when they will be released.

Furthermore, 200 trucks with aid supplies, 130,000 liters of diesel and four trucks with gas will enter the Gaza Strip every day in the coming days. That is more than what currently enters through the Rafah border crossing, but much less than is necessary according to the United Nations and aid organizations.
Israel says the truce can last longer as long as Hamas releases at least 10 hostages a day.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Qatar, which was also involved in the deal, the truce and the release of the hostages are being monitored from Qatar. From there direct contact is also possible with Israel, Hamas and the Red Cross. “We hope that this truce will lead to an opportunity for a permanent ceasefire,” Qatar said.
The Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7 killed 1,200 people and kidnapped some 240 hostages, according to Israel. The Israeli army then launched an operation in the Gaza Strip. According to Hamas, some 13,000 Gazans were killed.
