Ceasefire Agreement Reached for Ain al-Hilweh Camp in Lebanon: Hamas Deputy Chairman

Member of the Hamas Political Bureau and its Deputy Chairman abroad, Musa Abu Marzouk, revealed a meeting being held today, Saturday, by the special follow-up committee to complete the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in the Ain al-Hilweh camp in Lebanon.

Abu Marzouk said in a statement to the Palestinian Information Center, “The follow-up committee formed by Public Security, Army Intelligence, President Nabih Berri, and the Palestinian Embassy, ​​along with the Hamas movement, meets today, Saturday, and forms the leadership framework for joint security in which all forces participate.” .

The Palestinian leader explained that the ceasefire agreement includes 7 items that were reached during the meeting with the Fatah delegation headed by Azzam Al-Ahmad.

He stressed that the agreement includes: a ceasefire, the removal of military manifestations, the return of those displaced from the camp, the start of a campaign to rebuild what was destroyed by the clashes, the exit of militants from schools and their return to normal life, working to hand over those wanted to the Lebanese justice, and working to create a joint body and joint forces far from being… The security of the camp will be in the custody of one faction, while also dealing with the effects of what happened and healing the wounds of those who were harmed in the camp.

He pointed out that the recent ceasefire agreement came after his meeting with President Nabih Berri, who later met with Azzam Al-Ahmad, and accordingly the ceasefire was decided, and it is the result of a movement of meetings and communications conducted by (Abu Marzouk, at the head of the Hamas delegation) with many parties and personalities, in addition to Other efforts and meetings with Azzam Al-Ahmad, the Ambassador, the Popular Front, and Islamic Jihad.

He said: “These meetings contributed to strengthening our view of the necessity of a ceasefire, and the distinguished effort for a recent ceasefire was made by President Berri, and we agreed on the same steps that I agreed on with Azzam.”

How did events develop?

Abu Marzouk reviewed the developments in the situation in the camp since the events erupted after the assassination of Abed Farhoud by a person called the Somali (on July 29 last), after which a force from the Palestinian National Security (run by the Fatah movement) went to arrest the killer, and fell into an ambush in which the security director was killed. The nationalist in the camp, Abu Ashraf Al-Armushi, with 4 of his companions, after which an investigation committee was formed and 8 suspects were neutralized and asked to hand them over, but the mechanism was not put in place for that, and violent clashes quickly broke out.

Abu Marzouk said: “Feeling a sense of responsibility, I arrived in Lebanon (last Tuesday) to help break the spiral of a ceasefire, killing, and migration of the camp’s residents.”

He pointed out that he communicated with Azzam Al-Ahmad, supervisor of the Lebanese arena in the Fatah movement, and agreed with him to be present in Lebanon Square, and in fact on the same day he also arrived in Lebanon, and a meeting took place on the same evening at the embassy headquarters, although it was agreed that it would be held in another place and the meeting lasted for approximately 5 days. hours.

He continued, “We reached a ceasefire, and there was a long preamble that I did not care about because I wanted a ceasefire and fighting, an end to the crisis, and a return to normal life in the camp.”

He added: “The surprise was that the crisis quickly erupted again after one o’clock, and we noticed that the fighting had spread to neighborhoods other than the wanted ones, which made big question marks about what was intended to target neighborhoods, displace residents, demolish their homes, and target neighborhoods in which there were no wanted elements.”

He stated that following this development, he contacted Speaker Berri and held a meeting with him, entrusting him with the responsibility of rescuing the situation through a ceasefire. He added, “We pledged to work together with all sincerity to save the camp from what is happening, and there were meetings with General Security and Army Intelligence, and the talk revolved around this particular issue, and in As a result of this movement, a ceasefire was declared starting at six o’clock on Thursday evening.”
