Ceará Ibero-American Film Festival begins in Brazil

Rio de Janeiro, Dec 5 (EFE) .- More than 50 films will participate from this Saturday in the Ibero-American Film Festival of Ceará that, for the first time and due to the coronavirus pandemic, will reach the public in a hybrid format, with exhibitions face-to-face in the Brazilian city of Fortaleza and virtual for the whole world.
Films and co-productions from Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Chile, Spain, Venezuela, United Kingdom, Austria, France and Germany will be part of the sample selected by the Festival, which will run until December 11 and will complete 30 years in this 2020 .
More than a restriction due to the coronavirus, the hybrid format that the Festival had to adopt will allow it to open the doors to audiences from other countries and from different regions of Brazil so that they can enjoy Ibero-American cinema through the event’s YouTube channel.
The feature film competition will be inaugurated this Saturday at 8:00 p.m. local time (23:00 GMT) with the Brazilian film “Morte Habita à Noite” (death dwells in the night), by Eduardo Moroto, inspired by the stories of the author Charles Bukowski and that will be screened for the first time in the South American giant.
The film has already won the Best Actor award at the Inffinito Film Festival USA and entered the official selection of the Rotterdam International Film Festival and the Viña Festival.
The Argentine film “Las Buenas Intenciones”, by Ana García Blaya, winner of awards at the San Sebastián and Havana festivals, the documentary “Once upon a time in Venezuela”, a co-production by Venezuela, the United Kingdom, Austria and Brazil, directed by Anabel Rodríguez and was selected by Venezuela to compete for the Oscar 2021, they are also part of the competition.
Also, the film “Blanco en Blanco”, by Théo Court, a co-production of Chile, Spain, France and Germany, a film that won awards at the Venice, Toulouse, Havana, Minsk, Lima, Belarus festivals and at the Latin Film Festival in France.
The productions “Nazinha Olhai Por Nós” (Our Lady of Nazareth, look for us), a documentary by Belisario Franca, and “Ultima Cidade”, a fictional film by Victor Furtado, are also part of this competition where they will have their world premiere .
The event will also have a competition for Brazilian short films, will show a sample of films under the theme “looking at Ceará” and will reward productions made on cell phones about water care, in the Habits exhibition.
Throughout the week, the Festival will also offer a variety of debates and talks that can be seen on YouTube.
