BVIEvery week, Geert Hoste (63) gives his own unique and ironic view of the world in ‘Dag Allemaal’.
Political veterans return. Jean-Luc Dehaene was revived. This raises questions for some sharpeners. The resurrection and the blind faith in it are the backbone of the CD&V. For readers who no longer know what the abbreviation stands for: the C stands for Comedy, the D for Drama and the V for Resurrection. The & is a curly weed and refers to the past in which the party excelled in curly butts. The Christmas period stands for conviviality and attention for the elderly and outcasts. It is therefore logical that veteran politicians are woken from hibernation and rolled into everyday life with a blanket on their lap. They participate in television programs, appear in a light-hearted quiz, as a crazy transvestite or as a singing rabbit. What does it matter? As a politician you cannot drink alcohol every day. I understand. Anything is better than spending your days in a ministry. Or even worse: in parliament. It is lonelier than on a hard shoulder along the highway.

It has been policy for some time now: if the elderly cannot make ends meet on their pension, they have to work extra jobs. This is also the case with elderly politicians with a meager pension. The fact that Mieke Vogels is already ready for a comeback at the age of 69 and Louis Tobback and Willy Claes only at the age of 85 has everything to do with this. It is known that socialists gain more from their careers than other politicians. There have even been years when they wanted to burn surplus banknotes. You don’t have to hire a detective agency to know that you are better off winning the elections than the Lotto. I’m not including liberals because they never stop working. The other parties have not been around long enough and have hardly any pensioners, so the money is not there yet.
The Pope comes to Belgica because he too feels the inflation. The price of handmade chasubles and crazy miters has tripled and the church’s income is decreasing because no more money is coming in from adoptions.
The renewed attention for the elderly has also been well received in Rome. The Pope comes to Belgica because he too feels the inflation. The price of handmade chasubles and crazy miters has tripled and the church’s income is decreasing because no more money is coming in from adoptions. And as my grandmother noted: ‘When the pastor comes by, it’s to raise money.’
Fortunately, the retired politicians, Pope and King will speak at the Christmas lights about hope and that the future lies with the youth and so on. Merry Christmas and good will to all people.
