Christian Hirte (45) has been a member of the Bundestag since 2008. The state chairman of the Thuringian CDU is his party’s top candidate for Berlin for the first time. In the podcast “Let’s talk about Thuringia” we talked to him about …
… the rejection of the new election:
This is extremely regrettable and embarrassing for the entire parliamentary system. Yes, there were four colleagues in the CDU parliamentary group in the Thuringian state parliament who signaled relatively early on that they did not want to agree to the dissolution of the state parliament. But the truth is that there would have been a majority, even without the AfD. But in the end the Greens and, above all, the left did not want the dissolution.
… the cooperation with the left:
The CDU rejects coalitions or tolerances with good reason. The stability mechanism has expired. I rule out that we can extend it. But that does not rule out that the CDU can play a constructive role.
… Tax relief:
In 2021 we are talking about a situation in which we are still brutally burdened by the corona pandemic and are providing 30 billion euros for the flood victims. In other words, in the next year or two we will have very, very different issues than tax cuts. But we want to increase the basic tax-free allowance for children, which is also in our election program.
… the preservation of creation:
We definitely live beyond our means, that is, beyond the means of our planet. I also see that we have a special responsibility in Germany. We can do a lot more than many others, we just mustn’t overdo it, in a way that we completely stifle our economy, even in international competition.
… the Thuringian CDU candidate for the Bundestag, Hans-Georg Maaßen:
I find many statements from Dr. Not very helpful. I’ve already told him straight away that he should concentrate more on his constituency. I have the impression that almost everything Hans-Georg Maaßen says is true. Of course he is someone who is very provocative. He manages to overdraw regularly.
… the dispute with Mike Mohring:
Unlike Hans-Georg Maaßen, Mike Mohring is a political professional. Together we are concerned with the success of the CDU, with the country. Of course, we will deal with each other sensibly, in the interests of the cause, but also in the mutual personal interest – because it does not help anyone if you constantly step on each other’s feet.
