Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – After the federal political debate about a central memorial event for the thousands of victims of the corona pandemic in Germany, CDU parliamentary group leader Wolfgang Reinhart wants to initiate a similar initiative in Baden-Württemberg. «I think we should think about ways of commemorating the Corona victims together when the time comes. You deserve and we all need common, public remembrance, ”said Reinhart one day before the next special session of the state parliament of the German press agency.
Everyone wants a return to normal. However, those who have lost society because of the corona pandemic should not be forgotten either. “After solidarity in danger, there must also be solidarity in mourning and in memory,” said Reinhart.
At the beginning of September, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier brought an official memorial hour into discussion for the first time in order not to leave the bereaved in their grief. The chairman of the German Bishops’ Conference, Georg Bätzing, proposed the introduction of a nationwide Corona memorial day at the end of November. Only the Federal President is authorized to order a state act at federal level, which can take various forms. He coordinates with the other constitutional organs.
The future US President Joe Biden is also planning a memorial ceremony shortly before his swearing-in for the hundreds of thousands of people who have died in the US as a result of being infected with the coronavirus. On the evening before Biden’s inauguration on January 20, there is to be a memorial ceremony in the US capital Washington.
The Baden-Württemberg state parliament wants to debate the latest tightening of the corona measures in another special session on Friday (10:00 a.m.).
