According to Stephan Toscani, leader of the CDU parliamentary group in Saarland, vocational training is not given the importance it deserves.
In a position paper that the parliamentary group adopted at its closed meeting on Sunday, it called, among other things, for more positions for vocational school teachers and criticized the state government for once again not increasing the number of positions for vocational school teachers this year.
Training should become more attractive
The aim is also to make apprenticeships as attractive as university studies. That is why the group wants to campaign in the long term for free master’s training that follows normal training.
Small businesses in particular should be supported in training young people so that there can be more training companies in Saarland again.
Deployment of more language support staff required
For the CDU parliamentary group’s education spokeswoman Jutta Schmitt-Lang, another problem is that many vocational school students speak little or no German.
In the position paper, the CDU parliamentary group therefore calls for the use of more language and support teachers, but also more school social work at vocational schools.
