CDU fights for lowering the district levy

Wardenburg

The Wardenburg CDU district council members Armin Köpke and Hajo Suhr are campaigning for a two percentage point reduction in the district levy due to the corona-related lower income of the community in 2021. However, a corresponding application was rejected in the most recent district council meeting. “With an amount of more than seven million euros, the district levy for the district of Oldenburg is by far the largest expenditure amount in the budget of the Wardenburg community for the year 2021,” explains Wardenburg’s CDU budget expert Köpke.

Noticeable relief

The Union politicians calculate that the reduction would relieve the municipality of Wardenburg by around 380,000 euros. This approach was also recommended by the Association of Towns and Municipalities in order to support the municipalities in this special situation. This relief is urgently needed in Wardenburg. That is why the two CDU district council members are calling on their Wardenburg district council colleagues from all parties to vote in favor of a lowering of the district levy in the decisive budget vote on December 15 in the district council.

The desired consistency between the district budget and the municipal budgets no longer exists for the budget year 2021: “While Wardenburg has a deficit of around 1.5 million euros in current expenditure in the result budget in 2021 and is also taking on new debts for necessary infrastructure measures must, the district has a surplus of over five million euros, does not need to take out loans for its investments and can continue to apologize in 2021, ”the two politicians make the imbalance clear. Not only Wardenburg, but also other municipalities – such as Ganderkesee or Großenkneten – had high budget deficits for the coming year, according to Köpke.
