From Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate
22.08.24 – Under the motto “Tradition and Innovation”, the joint summer tour of the education policy experts from the CDU parliamentary groups in Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate took place from August 20 to 21. The 15-member delegation visited outstanding educational and cultural institutions in both federal states in order to gain valuable insights into local educational work and to strengthen cross-border cooperation.
Christian Wendel, education policy spokesman for the CDU Hesse, and his colleague from Rhineland-Palatinate Jenny Groß were enthusiastic: “This trip was all about exchanging ideas about innovative educational concepts. We were particularly impressed by the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in teaching, as presented by Dr. Markus Reinbold from the Willigis school association in Mainz. AI offers great opportunities, but also presents challenges that we discussed in depth.”
There were also plenty of cultural highlights. The delegation visited the Old Cathedral of St. John in Mainz. This is a place where the past and present merge in an impressive way. On the second day, the delegation visited the New Gymnasium in Rüsselsheim, which is setting standards nationwide with the school subject “Digital World”. Afterwards, there was a visit to ExperiMINTa in Frankfurt, an interactive museum for natural sciences and technology that promotes the curiosity and spirit of discovery of pupils.
At the end of the trip, the education politicians formulated concrete key points for education policy in Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate: Driving forward digitalization: Both CDU factions are calling for the rapid implementation of the Digital Pact 2.0 by the federal government in order to make schools fit for the future. Intensifying language support: Language skills are the key to educational success. While Hesse is already a pioneer with a comprehensive support concept, the CDU politicians in Rhineland-Palatinate are calling for comparable programs.
Maintaining school diversity, strengthening special schools: Maintaining and strengthening special schools is a key concern for CDU politicians in order to optimally support pupils with special support needs.
“This trip has given us many valuable insights that will be incorporated into our future work. We want to further intensify cross-border cooperation,” Wendel and Groß concluded. (pm) +++
