A group with a long career in Polish CD Projekt Red have joined forces and set up their own game studio called “Rebel Wolves”. On Wednesday, they gave for the first time a little insight into what is on the way, and what is on the way is very good news for fans of the great success The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Spiritual sequel to The Witcher 3
The Witcher 3 fans should be happy for the simple reason that “Rebel Wolves”‘s first game is very reminiscent of a kind of spiritual sequel to the very successful game from 2015. In an email, co-founders Konrad Tomaszkiewicz and Jakub Szamalek describe the new, unnamed game as a “dark fantasy, story-focused open world RPG game”. Both have worked with The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, and have left many years in CD Projekt Red before they now invest in themselves.
According to the two founders of the studio Rebel Wolves, the game should have a scope reminiscent of the Blood and Wine expansion of The Witcher 3, but that it should be much less non-linear. The game is scheduled to be launched on both PS5 and Xbox Series X / S, and PC.
Accused of bullying
Not surprisingly, the game for Rebel Wolves is a long way off. Tomaszkiewicz writes that they aim for launch in 2025, and that in the coming months they will be busy hiring developers. The goal will be about 80 people in what will be a medium-sized game studio. They are actively looking for business partners for the project, which so far is funded by the co-founder alone.
It is part of the story that Tomaszkiewicz was production manager for Cyberpunk 2077, and that in this role he was accused of bullying, followed by an internal investigation and a decision where the commission had not found him guilty of the charges.
