The General Directorate for Fighting Organized Crime has warned that Africans posing as NATO generals are massively cheating Bulgarian women on the Internet and forcing them to send them money, BNR reported.
Cases have increased in recent months. Fraudsters start communicating with women whose social media profiles show that they do not have a partner. Sometimes the online connection lasts for weeks before large sums are claimed.
“They choose to be older women who have public photos and in these photos it is obvious that they do not have a partner or otherwise it is established that these women would seek some virtual intimacy with someone. Therefore, they are presented with a beautiful picture of an American general who he has been in Afghanistan or another country for 5 years and is looking for a woman to live with after completing his military service, “said Commissioner Vladimir Dimitrov, head of the GDCOP’s cybercrime unit.
“It’s massive. Almost every week we have a Bulgarian woman – mostly women targeted by these criminal groups, who says she met a similar general a few weeks ago. She is blackmailed in some way. She was initially invited to send money, as usual. they start with a few hundred levs, “he added.
