CDC Research: Pregnant Women Vaccinated with Covid-19 Give Protection to Babies

JAKARTA, celebrities.id – Prospective mothers who receive Covid-19 vaccination while pregnant can provide protection to the unborn baby.

The study was revealed by the American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Tuesday, February 15, 2022.

Citing NBC News, Wednesday (16/2/2022) pregnant mother who receive Covid-19 vaccine during pregnancy can provide immune protection to their newborns.

“The chances of a baby aged six months or under six months being hospitalized for Covid-19 infection are 61 percent lower if the mother has been injected with the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine while pregnant, said Dr. Dana Meaney-Delman of the CDC.

This good news is the result of a research study by researchers who studied newborns in 20 pediatric hospitals in 17 states, spanning the period from July 1, 2021, to January 17, 2022.

The results showed that 84 percent of infants who were hospitalized with Covid-19 infection were born to mothers who were not vaccinated.

This study involved 43 Covid-19 positive babies who were admitted to the ICU, and found that 88 percent of them were born to mothers who were not vaccinated before giving birth.

Referring to the results of the research study above, Dr. Dana Meaney reminded the importance of getting the Covid-19 vaccination for pregnant women.

“The bottom line is that vaccinating mothers against Covid-19 is a very important way to help protect these children. This is very important, considering that vaccination in this age group is still very far away,” he said.

The same data also indicated that babies born to mothers who were vaccinated at an earlier gestational age had a lower risk of hospitalization due to Covid-19 than babies whose mothers were vaccinated early in pregnancy.
