CDC: Negative Covid-19 Test Results, 7 Days Enough Quarantine Period

Trimming the Covid-19 quarantine period is expected to increase compliance.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, WASHINGTON – The United States Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) said on Wednesday (2/12) that it recommended a shorter self-quarantine period for those potentially exposed to Covid-19. The self-quarantine period lasts just seven days with a negative test result and 10 days without a test.

Health authorities are currently calling for a 14-day quarantine after coming into close contact with someone who is positive Covid-19 in order to limit the transmission of the corona virus. The CDC still recommends a 14-day quarantine period for those infected with Covid-19.

He said that the alternative shorter quarantine period is expected to increase compliance with Covid-19 regulations, the official said CDC to the media crew via virtual conference. The CDC updated its definition of close contact in October to include direct physical contact, sharing eating utensils, or exposure for 15 minutes at a distance of 1.8 meters or closer to someone who is infected.
