Because of the Delta variant, US citizens are asked to wear masks again
Dream – Once allowed to take off masks, the United States Centers for Disease Control (CDC) again asked the people of Uncle Sam’s country who had been vaccinated to wear them again. This new recommendation was issued following the reoccurrence of the spike in Covid-19 cases in the US due to the Delta variant.
The CDC recommends that people start wearing masks indoors and in places with a high risk of COVID-19 transmission. Students are also advised to wear masks when entering school this fall.
CDC Director, Rochelle Walensky, still believes people who are vaccinated can still catch Covid-19 but at a low risk. However, people who have been vaccinated also have the potential to carry the virus at higher levels than before and can transmit it to other people.
“This pandemic continues to pose a serious threat to the health of all Americans. Today, we have new knowledge about the Delta variant that requires us to update our guidance on what you can do when you are fully vaccinated,” said Walensky.
The new guidance is published ahead of the fall, when the highly contagious Delta variant is expected to cause another spike in Covid-19 cases. In mid-May, the CDC stated that fully vaccinated people do not need to wear masks in most places, both indoors and outdoors.
“In areas with substantial and high transmission, the CDC recommends fully vaccinated people wear masks in public, indoor settings to help prevent the spread of the Delta variant, and protect others. This includes schools,” said Walensky.
