Solopos.com, SOLO-The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said cloth masks were no longer effective against the Omicron variant of the corona virus, compared to surgical masks or respirators. The agency urges Americans to wear the most protective mask you can that fits well and you will wear it consistently.

“Respirator masks may be considered in certain situations and by certain people when greater protection is needed or desired,” the CDC’s website said.

Fitted disposable surgical masks and KN95 — other types of respirator masks — are more protective than all cloth masks, and fitted respirators, including N95, offer the highest level of protection.

Previously, the CDC recommended individuals may choose to use a disposable N95 respirator when supplies become available. It’s called an N95 respirator because it can filter out 95 percent of all particulate matter in the air when used properly.

The CDC also says regular surgical masks are an acceptable alternative for doctors and nurses when interacting with patients infected with the coronavirus. It took months for the CDC and WHO to acknowledge that the coronavirus can be carried by tiny droplets called aerosols, which can stay indoors for hours.

According to the new description, mask products made of loosely woven fabrics provide the least protection and layered fine woven products offer more.

Meanwhile, Covid-19 observer, Ali Alkatiri, in a press release on Tuesday (18/1/2022), suggested the use of a nose sanitizer as a preventive measure to clean the nose from the virus.

“People should take better care of themselves by taking better preventive measures. The public must understand that humans can be infected with the Covid-19 virus because the virus enters one of them through the respiratory tract. The preventive way that must be done is to make sure the virus does not enter the lungs, or kill the virus that has entered the respiratory tract,” he explained as quoted from Between on Wednesday (19/1/2022).

“The incoming virus will stay for several days in our respiratory tract, namely the nasal cavity and nasopharynx, that’s when we have to kill the virus before it enters the lungs… Nose sanitizer can kill 95 percent of the virus within 24 hours,” he said.

Ali Alkatiri said that a number of countries have started using nose sanitizers, such as the UK, Korea, Bahrain and Thailand.
