CDA MP Jaco Geurts Leaves Parliament to Become Acting Mayor in Maasdriel

Jaco Geurts was spokesperson living in the House of Representatives for the CDA

NOS News

CDA MP Jaco Geurts is leaving the House of Representatives to become acting mayor in Maasdriel. It is the second CDA member in a week to leave The Hague. On Wednesday, MP Agnes Mulder announced that she had found a new job.

In addition to the two CDA MPs, SP MP Maarten Hijink also announced his departure this week. He found parliamentary membership in combination with his young family life very difficult.

Geurts, 52, was a member of the House of Representatives for ten years and has mainly been involved in housing construction in recent years. Previously, he was mainly a spokesman for agriculture. Before his parliamentary membership, Geurts owned a pig farm in Kootwijkerbroek.

Subservient

Geurts has announced via Twitter that he considers it “honorable” to become acting mayor in the municipality in the province of Gelderland. “My commitment is to be meaningful to all residents and the region, to have a connecting role and to be of service to developments. It was a privilege to be a member of the House of Representatives for more than 10 years.”

The CDA has fourteen seats in the House of Representatives and lost almost half of the number of seats in the provinces in the recent provincial elections.
