On September 26, we are scheduled to receive the Phantom Liberty expansion for the blockbuster game Cyberpunk 2077. At the same time, we will receive “Update 2.0” – a serious update that not only affects the game itself, but which for PC users also affects the hardware.
In particular, it is the processor that will be utilized much better after the update.
At least this is claimed by Filip Pierściński, who is one of the developers at CD Projekt Red. Via X, he simply encourages everyone to double-check the processor cooling solution before the big release day.
The claim is that, after the update, the game will be able to utilize as much as ninety percent of all the capacity of an eight-core processor.
With our own test bench with medium settings and Full HD resolution (1920×1080 pixels), the eight-core AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D is currently at around fifty percent load. In that case, the update offers a big improvement – of course given that the power is used for something other than heating the room in the colder months.

It should be mentioned that the good Pierściński has subsequently assured that no computers will melt because of Update 2.0, and that the game will work fine on recommended hardware.
But having a decent and well-functioning cooler for a processor that approaches one hundred percent load over time is always recommended anyway.
Varying impact
Besides potentially contributing to more fan noise, we’re guessing it will vary greatly how much different systems will be able to take advantage of having more CPU power to play with. For those of you who play in the highest resolutions, it will be the graphics solution that sets the ceiling for performance anyway.
At the same time, we are excited about whether this will really be able to do something drastic with the FPS figure in Full HD in particular – and then we are thinking not only with the latest generation from AMD or Intel, but also with those with slightly older hardware.
Since Update 2.0 is free – and therefore probably pushed on us whether we like it or not – we’re looking forward to setting aside an evening or two this autumn to test things again. This is both for processor performance and general graphics card performance.
It’s good to have a hobby.
