CD Projekt Red shared an illustration of Geralt made at a very early stage of The Witcher development

As reported in a tweet, Przemek Turczynski, whose work defined Geralt’s appearance in the game, recently visited CD Projekt Red. As part of this visit, he shared some never-before-seen illustrations of Geralt. This is a very detailed drawing, and although his face is a little more voluminous, it is easy to see how the final drawing was formed.

This was part of a 15-year celebration that CD Projekt Red held for The Witcher, originally released in 2007. Of course, this was only a small revelation compared to the announcement that the first Witcher will receive a remake of Unreal 5 from the developers.

This remake is absolutely necessary as the original game may be difficult to accept for players who expect the greatness of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It’s more of an intimate game, with a much, much smaller, but therefore tighter, purpose. But many still consider it the best of the trilogy, and in some respects this is true. Despite some cramped locations in terms of non-linearity, the game could present many interesting situations.

While The Witcher 1 cannot match what the series has become, one of the games’ biggest and most beloved franchises, it is still a major artifact in CD Projekt’s history and an often overlooked chapter in Geralt’s history.

Seeing this original concept art, it occurs to you that Witcher games have appeared quite recently. While Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels have had their audience, the games catapulted the franchise into mainstream consciousness and became one of the greatest fantasy franchises of all time. It’s funny to think that the spark that propelled Geralt’s story to millions of people started with conceptual images like this one.
