The question of whether business tycoon Elon Musk actually was in Cyberpunk 2077 may finally be put to rest, as developer CD Projekt Red has confirmed that he definitely isn’t there.
In the years since the release of Cyberpunk 2077, there has been a lot of speculation on the Internet about whether a certain NPC might be a Musk cameo. The NPC appears in the game only briefly and is hardly the center of attention in that one scene, but it was enough to convince some people that it is definitely Musk, especially after the recent revelations that Twitter CEO, ahem, X, demanded that it be added to the game.
Cyberpunk 2077 Senior Quest Designer Patrick K. Mills has officially confirmed that it is not him. But at the same time, he did not refute the story told by Musk. Responding to a fan who noticed that Elon Musk’s lookalike had been removed from the game, Mills said:
This was not Elon Musk, he didn’t look like him at all. Who came up with this nonsense?
The NPC does bear a vague resemblance to Musk and almost all other middle-aged white men with brown hair. When zoomed in, the NPC’s face looks very little like Mask’s. Here’s a comparison shot taken by Kazuliski, the YouTuber who made a video exploring the fan theory:
Almost nothing in common, right? And now, following Mills’ comment, it’s safe to say that any real or imagined similarity between this Cyberpunk 2077 NPC and Musk is purely coincidental.
