CD Projekt acquires studio from Bioware and Relic veterans – Gaming – News

CD Projekt has acquired Canadian game studio Digital Scapes. The Polish company has been working with Digital Scapes since 2018, including Cyberpunk 2077. The studio also contributed to the development of Dying Light.

In a press release writes CD Projekt, the parent company of developer CD Projekt RED, that Digital Scapes has made a significant contribution to the development of Cyberpunk 2077 and the optimization of various features. With the acquisition, CD Projekt RED will gain an additional studio in Vancouver with about twelve developers. The studio is now called CD Projekt RED Vancouver.

Founded in 2012 by veterans of BioWare, Radical Entertainment and Relic, Digital Scapes helped develop Company of Heroes, Dead Rising, Mass Effect and Prototype in addition to Cyberpunk 2077 and Dying Light. The studio will now contribute to the development of new CD Projekt RED titles, the developer says.

For CD Projekt RED it is also a good chance of bringing in more development talent. The developer now has game studios in the Polish cities of Wrocław, Krakow and Warsaw. Canada is an important country for the games industry, with studios from EA, Ubisoft, Square Enix and dozens of indie studios, among others. In Vancouver and nearby Burnaby alone 46 studios are housed.

On Tuesday, CD Prjokekt announced restructure it so that it can release multiple major AAA games and add-ons simultaneously in the future. The company will also invest more time in the development of its REDengine.
