CD Project Red confirms: The Witcher medallion represents a lynx

The day that most expected to come finally arrived on Monday: A new Witcher game is underway. The was announced with a picture of a Witcher medallion, and the speculation about what kind of animal it was came as a letter in the mail. Many speculated that it was a cat, but this did not turn out to be the case (at least not entirely). Instead, CD Projekt Red has straightened it all out says that it is a lynx, ie a “lynx”.

All Witchers belong to different schools that are represented by each animal. They also have their own orientations, methods and fighting styles. Geralt belongs to the School of the Wolf, for example, which is generally considered to be reliable and good at killing monsters. School of the Cat instead has a reputation for being bloodthirsty and even acting as mercenaries and assassins, rather than just monster killers. School of the Bear Witchers, in turn, are known for their strength and the use of heavy armor.

So what is the School of the Lynx? We do not know this in principle, because it is not in the books (just like many other schools in the games) and has not appeared in the games. If you search for the school, you can find both descriptions and stories about its history, but notice that it is fan fiction.

The subtitle of the announcement image – “A New Saga Begins” – thus seems very appropriate, and it undeniably looks like CD Projekt Red is ready to write a new chapter in the Witcher story. The question is whether characters like Geralt and Ciri will be included, or whether they choose to turn the page altogether.
