CCSS Rushes AstraZeneca Vaccine Placement Before Expiration

(CRHoy.com) .- The Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) is placing at this time, only first doses with the AstraZeneca brand COVID-19 vaccine.

After the low influx of people in the “Vaccination”, several leaders have attributed the low attendance to the myths behind this vaccine and have had to start an information strategy in this regard.

However, a new concern arises in the Caja from this situation: the doses must be placed before their expiration.

CRhoy.com consulted with the institution to request information regarding the storage and expiration dates of AstraZeneca vaccines found in the country.

Given this, the House declared that at this time in the Storage and Distribution Area (ALDI) there are 42,850 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, which They will expire on December 31st.

However, these would not be the only doses stored, because after distribution, if they are not placed, they can be held in storage by the various health areas.

The concern is that there are vials of this vaccine that expire at the end of this month of October and they have not yet been placed. In this way, under batch “NH0239” 319,200 doses arrived in the country, of which 31,920 were distributed for September 21 and whose batch was the most used during the “vaccination”.

Likewise, for this same date, 20,400 doses of the 204,000 received under lot “NK0155”, which expire on November 30; as well as 10.800 of the 108,000 received under lots “210213” and “210306”, which expire on December 31st.

It is for this reason that, before the end of the months of October, November and December, said vaccines must be in place in the arms of Costa Ricans who are not immunized, who are expected not to have opted for inoculation due to their rejection of the doses.

Fear by AstraZeneca

The health authorities have expressed their concern that one of the reasons that has been heard the most in people who do not wish to be vaccinated at this time is because they do not want to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine out of fear or fear of its side effects.

Given this, the specialist of the National Children’s Hospital, Olga Arguedas, said she was very concerned about this perception of people who do not want to be vaccinated, which is totally wrong.

You have to be vaccinated with AstraZeneca without fear, no vaccine under any circumstances can be more fearsome, than how fearsome is the COVID-19 disease that has killed more than 6 thousand people in our country “, concluded Arguedas.

CCSS specialists point out that scientific evidence shows that COVID-19 vaccines they are effective and safe, including against the new variants of SARS-CoV-2 that circulate in the country.

For these reasons, there should be no fear of placing this dose, since they are totally effective and contribute in no way to reducing hospitalizations and deaths caused by COVID-19.

As of last Monday’s report, they are considered stored 206,225 doses between AstraZeneca vaccine (ALDI) and Pfizer vaccine (14 focal points); the latter are only being used for second doses.

“Every week there is a vaccine withdrawal schedule at the focal points according to the amount of doses necessary to comply with the schedules of the week. Like every week there is a vaccine admission to a focal point. This is a dynamic process ”, stated the CCSS.
