In this part of the country, the export of gold, blueberries, asparagus and avocado are some of the main exported products.
In order to assess the situation of the productive sector in the region, the Chamber of Commerce of La Libertad (CCLL) constantly monitors the regional economy and in the first two months of 2023 there was evidence of a 15% growth in exports, in the first two months of 2023, according to information published by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).
AGRICULTURAL GOODS. The report also specifies that, at the national level, non-traditional agricultural exports grew 12% in the first two months of 2023, due to the greater sale of fruit (14%), with the main destinations for agricultural products being the United States (35% of the total) and the European Union (27%).
In this sector, the higher sales of fresh avocado (35.4%), fresh blueberry (25.3%) and fresh grapes (23.9%) stood out. In vegetables, canned asparagus exports predominated (32.7%) thanks to the greater supply (21.4%).
FISHING. Meanwhile, non-traditional fish exports totaled US$ 361 million (22%) in the first two months of 2023 and here the higher sale of frozen squid (187%) stood out, due to a higher volume (153%) and price (13, 6%). Likewise, exports of seaweed grew (101.9%), followed by canned fish (18.4%).
On the other hand, the value exported in the non-metallic mining (83%), metal-mechanical (11%), textile (7%), and fishing (3%), among others, also grew. Here the sales of anthracite (191%) and natural calcium phosphate (94%) stood out.
In this way, it is evident that, despite the slowdown of the national and regional economy, export activity in the region continues to grow thanks to the resilience of the business sector that continues to bet on the region and contribute to regional economic development.
