CCLL: Authorities must execute contingency plans in the face of imminent El Niño phenomenon – News from Trujillo, La Libertad, Peru

The business association requests to streamline and execute prevention work to prevent damage caused by rain and landslides to the most vulnerable population.

Given the constant rains and landslides registered in the northern regions and part of the provinces of the Sierra Liberteña, the Chamber of Commerce of La Libertad (CCLL), demands that the authorities execute their contingency plans and response protocols against the imminent phenomenon El Niño, which is already causing damage and victims in other regions of the country.

Although heavy rains have not yet been registered in the city of Trujillo, such as the last one on Friday, March 10, the business association urges the authorities of the three levels of government to develop their disaster response plans and protocols natural; as well as manage the adequate human, logistical and financial resources for its proper implementation.

Likewise, the request of the business union urges the authorities to protect the area of ​​the Chavimochic mother canal, which constantly suffers damage from heavy rains and landslides, which leave thousands of Trujillo residents without water service for several weeks. Faced with this, the corresponding preventive actions and maintenance of the hydroelectric infrastructure must be carried out to avoid the shortage of drinking water for Trujillo.

The business union also recommends the implementation of drainage systems in the city, land use planning, and due supervision of the housing formalization processes, avoiding invasions to prevent the occupation of spaces considered high-risk areas by Civil Defense, such as riverbeds or river mouths. of rivers and streams.

It should be mentioned that Cyclone Yaku left economic and social losses of approximately 500 million soles in the La Libertad region for only five days, so it is urgent that the authorities act diligently and together with the population in an organized manner. contribute to the implementation of these prevention activities to deal with the El Niño phenomenon.
