This is not a meeting that will go down in history in terms of statistics. But it will count at the end of the season. This Saturday, at Halle Cochet, the CCBF players were able to turn around a compromised situation in overtime (58-60), to finally make the decision, thanks to a providential award-winning shot from their captain Élise Marié (63-60).
In the first leg, two points separated the two teams (Chartraine defeat 74-72). Saturday evening, the spectators of the Jean-Cochet hall quickly understood that the scenario would be, if not similar in the result, in any case undecided.
Because apart from the good start of Benoît Marty’s protégés (10-0, 4′), the two teams, candidates for the play-offs, have never really managed to widen a significant gap. Blame it on the guilty nervousness of two teams who feared each other.
Elise Marie popped up
If the locals, 6th in the standings at kick-off, often led in the score, they suffered from their clumsiness throughout the game. Like their interiors Mfutila and Long, which were not very successful (respectively 2/7 and 2/5). Against Champenoises still as catchy (29-29, 23 ‘then 42-42, 33’), they nevertheless managed to tap into their reserves. Even when it came to going into overtime (56-56 after regulation time).
Once in extra time, the Chartraines relied once again on their captain, Élise Marié, as they had done a fortnight earlier in front of Mondeville.
Trailing 58-60, they first equalized at 60-60 before entrusting their fate to their leader, who managed a prize-winning shot synonymous with a breath of fresh air. It was time, 17 seconds from the buzzer (63-60, final score). Happy, the Chartraines could turn to their next match, against Toulouse, on Saturday.
