CCA Announces Weekly Women’s Tennis Awards

Greensboro, North Carolina (theACC.com) – Giulia Pairone from Florida State and Estela Perez-Somarriba from Miami were named Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Players of the Week, and Marice Aguiar from Boston College and Isabella Pfennig from Miami were selected as the co-students of first year of the week.

Pairone played a key role in Florida State’s road victories over Syracuse (7-0) and Boston College (4-3). The graduate student from Turin, Italy, played first in singles and remained undefeated, earning victories over Yufei Long (6-1, 6-4) of the Eagles and 121 of the Orange. Viktoriya Kanapatskaya (6-3, 7-6 [3]). In doubles, Pairone teamed up with Anna Arkadianou for a victory over Boston College’s Natasha Irani and Loren Haukova, 6-2.

Hailing from Madrid, Spain, Pérez-Somarriba led Miami to a pair of ACC road wins over 50th Syracuse (4-3) and Boston College (5-2). Hurricane Senior played first in both singles and doubles, earned a ranking win in both, and was undefeated in singles. Pérez-Somarriba defeated Guzal Yuspova, No. 81 of Syracuse, 6-2, 6-0, and added another victory over Kylie Wilcox of Boston College, 6-4, 6-4. In doubles, the senior teamed up with Pfennig for a 6-3 win over the 25th duo of the Eagles, Long and Wilcox.

Aguiar has won his four games of the week, two in singles and two in doubles. The San Juan, Puerto Rico rookie beat Florida State’s Anna Arkandianou (6-4, 6-4) and Miami’s Daevenia Achong (6-4, 1-6, 6-3) for third place in singles. In doubles, Aguiar teamed up with Laura López for victories over Florida State’s Petra Hule and Andrea García (7-5) and the Miami tandem of Maya Tahan and Diana Khodan (6-3).

In addition to joining Pérez-Somarriba for a top 25 victory in doubles, Pfennig achieved a top 100 victory in singles. The rookie from Gauting, Germany, beat Long for second in singles, 6-2, 4-6, 6-0.
