The United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recently announced that it will reopen one of its ports of entry that had been closed for months.
This is one of the access points on the northern border, which borders Canada. This is the Poker Creek port of entry, located on the Top of the World Highway that connects the communities of Chicken, Alaska and Dawson, Yukon, on the Canada-US border.
This entry point is enabled seasonally, and can be used starting next week.
The annual closure of Poker Creek is due to weather conditions, as it is in an area that can reach extremely low temperatures. However, it reopens its doors during the summer season.
In the case of 2024, the access point to the United States will be available starting May 17, and can be used until September 15, before temperatures drop again.
It is planned to use the same schedule as last year, so the port will begin operations at 8:00 am, ending its day at 6:00 pm, Alaska Standard Time.
It is important to remember that opening dates and times may vary depending on weather conditions, so it is necessary to stay well informed about the weather in the region.
In that sense, authorities warned that changes can be made at short notice, so travelers should be alert and plan their trips carefully, given the possibility of an unexpected change or closure.
This entry point is not only characterized by having to close its doors during certain seasons, but also for being the closest port of entry to the North Pole in the United States.
