Chennai. The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday withdrew the consent given to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate in the state. With this, this southern state also joined the list of non-BJP ruled states which have done so in the past. This step has been taken on the day of the arrest of State Electricity and Prohibition and Excise Minister V Senthil Balaji by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case.
According to a special provision of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946 (Central Act 25 of 1946), the CBI has to take prior permission of the concerned state government before going to investigate, said a release issued by the Home Department here. .
