This Tuesday, the CBF released images and audio from VAR of the second goal scored by São Paulo against Corinthians, in last week’s match for the semifinals of the Copa do Brasil. With the 2-0 victory, the tricolors advanced to the decision.

In goal, striker Lucas heads the ball into the crossbar and then launches himself towards it. In the tackle with Cássio, the ball goes in.

VAR checked not only a possible handball, but also an impediment by Wellington Rato at the start of the play and a possible foul by Lucas on Cássio. Nothing was found, and the goal was validated by referee Raphael Claus.

The head of the CBF arbitration commission defended the procedure of the team that commanded the match:

– VAR protocol states clear and obvious error (for review). When there is no evidence of the hand touch, there is no infraction. The field decision was a goal and was maintained – said Wilson Seneme.

– The most important thing is that the VAR team is activated for the hand possibility. She does every search, from every angle, in every possibility. She stops at various angles in the possibility of contact and does not find any contact – said VAR technical manager Pericles Bassols.

– Angles at which, depending on the perspective you are looking at… we looked at one that looks like the hand is behind, at another it looks like the hand is on top. They are angles, you can never treat the image with just one angle. In VAR, we do the work of stopping these images and marrying them all like a puzzle – added Bassols.
