The Cord Blood Association has welcomed and supported the European Commission for its plan to update and harmonize the regulation of banking in human blood, cells and tissues in the 27 EU countries.
The letter from the CBA and its European Section states that the applicable regulations for banking in umbilical cord blood and perinatal tissue vary widely from country to country, leading to uncertainties about quality and the transport of much-needed cells between countries EU jurisdictions as well as to and from countries outside the European Union more difficult.
