Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu held talks with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken within the framework of the 2nd Ministerial Meeting of the Türkiye-US Strategic Mechanism in Washington.

At a press conference held before the meeting, Cavusoglu said that bilateral relations, regional issues as well as cooperation in the field of economy will be discussed.

“Last year, our trading volume had reached $30 billion. Our goal is to reach $100 billion. So there are opportunities in the field of energy and investment. We will discuss also our bilateral defense cooperation, especially our request for F-16s,” he said.

The head of Turkish diplomacy indicated that the F-16 request is important not only for Türkiye but also for the security of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the United States.

Separately, Cavusoglu also noted that the fight against terrorism, in particular against the terrorist organization PKK, developments in Syria, the Eastern Mediterranean, the Middle East and the Caucasus will also be discussed during the meeting.

On the other hand, Blinken stressed the importance of relations between Türkiye and the United States and pointed out that as allies, there are differences between the two countries on certain issues.

Specifying to appreciate the role of Türkiye in the Black Sea grain deal, Blinken said they will discuss cooperation between Türkiye and the United States as allies.

Currently on an official visit to the United States, Cavusoglu will travel to Texas to inaugurate the new office of the Consulate General of Türkiye in Houston. Subsequently, the head of Turkish diplomacy will meet the President of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, Csaba Korosi.
