Cava de’ Tirreni, wrong operation: dies after 14 years

After 14 years in a coma she died at the “Santa Maria dell’Olmo” hospital in Cava de’ Tirreniafter being hospitalized in intensive care for about two weeks, the brilliant pianist from Cave Annabella Benincasa. The young woman and mother of a little girl, now an adult, decided on May 13, 2010 to undergo breast augmentation surgery to increase a breast size at the Iatropolis clinic in Caserta. From that moment on she ended up in a coma and she never woke up again.

Annabella, in name and in fact, was of a unique beauty. Her only complaint was that she had small breasts. She wanted it a few sizes bigger. That cursed morning in mid-May, when she was 14 years old and Benincasa was 35 years old at the time, she underwent surgery in a specialized private clinic in the province of Caserta. An operation considered routine, which however was not the case for Annabella. In fact, while she was in the operating room, the woman had convulsions, which caused her a respiratory crisis and cardiac arrest. A situation that got out of hand to the doctors, who had the patient transferred to the Sant’Anna and San Sebastiano hospital in Caserta. The clinical picture immediately appeared alarming, with thepractically flat encephalogram. This was the diagnosis that emerged upon admission to the intensive care unit at Sant’Anna and San Sebastiano.

Since then, the woman’s condition has remained very serious. While theThe Benincasa family filed a complaint against the clinic held responsible for the woman’s condition, Annabella’s mother, Mrs. Anna, never lost hope of a revival of her only daughter. She fought against everything and everyone. She kept her hospitalized in the best centers for reviving people in comas, until the decision was made to keep her at home and set up an aseptic room for her, making her perform all the necessary treatments, including for her joints. The piano teacher lived for another 14 years, after that tragic May 13th, thanks to the care and unconditional love of his mother.
