Injuries caused, for example, by the use of lawn mowers are particularly dangerous for children. Injuries are very severe and it is not always possible to perform finger replantation because the tissue is shattered. Doctors have developed an operating algorithm and are able to provide acute microsurgical assistance to children: ensuring immediate replantation of amputated segments, as well as reconstruction of defects.
Dzintars Ozols, a children’s plastic and hand surgeon at the Children’s Clinical University Hospital: “The mowing technique causes very serious injuries, there are often cases when replantation of amputated segments is not possible. There are cases when it is possible to save broken hands or feet during microsurgical tissue transplantation and reconstruction. We have developed and are working on a microsurgical trauma protocol to help every child. However, it does not go unpunished, so caution must be a priority in every family with young children. ”
At present, the child has recovered from the injury and it is planned to discharge him from the hospital, he managed to preserve the most important functions of the wrist – grip and feeling. Although full rehabilitation will take at least half a year.
